Restorative dentistry is a branch of dentistry that focuses on diagnosing, preventing, and treating oral diseases and conditions, with the goal of restoring the functionality and aesthetics of the teeth and supporting structures. Restorative dentistry is primarily concerned with addressing dental problems resulting from tooth decay, trauma, wear and tear, or developmental abnormalities. Some common restorative dental procedures include:

Composite Fillings: Used to repair teeth affected by cavities or minor damage. The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is removed, and a filling material, such as composite resin, amalgam, or porcelain, is used to restore the tooth’s structure.

Crowns: Also known as dental caps, crowns are used to restore severely damaged or decayed teeth. They cover the entire visible portion of the tooth, providing strength, protection, and an improved appearance.

Bridges: These are used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge consists of artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are anchored to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants.

Partials: Dental partials, also known as partial dentures or simply “partials,” are removable dental appliances used to replace one or several missing teeth. They are designed to fill the gaps left by missing teeth and are supported by the remaining natural teeth and tissues in the mouth.

Dentures: Removable appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth. They can be full dentures (replacing all teeth in the upper or lower arch) or partial dentures (replacing a few missing teeth).

Restorative dentistry aims to restore oral health, function, and aesthetics, allowing individuals to regain their ability to speak, chew, and smile with confidence. It often involves a combination of techniques and can be customized based on an individual’s specific needs and goals.
